Day At Sea

Sun is getting low

After five ports in five days our day at sea was much appreciated. We slept in, swam in the pool, attended some activities, and enjoyed the Flowrider and rock climbing wall again. The ship had so much to do and appreciate we enjoyed our leisure time at the end of the honeymoon. We specifically waited and timed our day so that we could watch the sun set over theĀ Mediterranean. This was something I remember enjoying… (more)

Rome

Full view of the arena, with a partially restored floor

On this crazy cruise we were in a new city everyday, with each tour more epic than the last. This day we were docked in Civitavecchia, about an hour from Rome. We had booked a private tour with 3 other couples to see everything we wanted to see in a one whirlwind day in Rome. After meeting up for breakfast with our tour-mates we went outside and found our tour guide. He drove us in… (more)

Amalfi Coast and Pompeii

Evey out at the end of the pier with Amalfi in the background

Our ship docked in Naples for the day, and many people simply walked ashore to check out that city, but we did not. We got on a bus to tour the Amalfi Coast, the city of Amalfi, and finally the city of Pompeii. I’ve always wanted to go to Pompeii since I was little, I find it fascinating, and it did not disappoint. But the first part of the day was spent admiring the terraced… (more)

Pisa and Florence

The leaning tower of Pisa

This morning our ship was docked in Livorno, Italy. Our destinations for the day were to see Pisa and Florence. After a bit of a bus ride and a walk we got to see the leaning tower of pisa! We had about 45 minutes to hang around in the Field of Miracles and take all the silly pictures we wanted. So we did. It was wonderful, but 45 minutes is more than enough time to… (more)

Nice and Monaco

The entrance to the casino of Monte Carlo

Our second port of call was in Villefranche, France. This one required a tender to get ashore which we took, and set out on a very busy day of sightseeing. Our destinations today included Nice, Eze, Monaco, and the casino Monte Carlo. We arrived at Nice very early in the day when most things were not yet open. We did, however, have about an hour to wander around from the waterfront to some gardens and… (more)

Aix-en-Provence

Evey posing along the way

Our first port of call was Toulon, France. On this day Eric and I chose to visit a small town called Aix-en-Provence. This is the town of Paul Cezanne so I was intrigued to visit and learn about it’s history. We went on a very brief walking tour through the main squares of the town, and then were set free for about an hour to explore on our own. There seemed to be some sort… (more)

Cruise Departure

And cupcakes with more champagne!

Finally the day of the cruise! We left the W pretty early and took a cab to the cruise terminal. We had no trouble and hardly any lines getting ourselves and our luggage onto the ship. We had a nice lunch at the buffet, and explored the ship and activities as much as we could before our room was ready. When we found our room it was all decorated with newlywed decorations, food gifts, and… (more)

Barcelona Day 2

View of our hotel from the beach and boardwalk

Our plan for Day 2 in Barcelona was to see pretty much everything else as quickly as possible. We skipped breakfast and took a cab to Las Ramblas, the main pedestrian strip of shops and vendors. Many cruise ships were in this day and there were plenty of people milling up and down the street. We wandered up and down the strip, in and out of some shops, bought a few things to take home… (more)

Barcelona Day 1

At the bottom of the Parc, you can see the plaza level all the way at the top where people are looking down

After our wedding Eric and I took a couple days to regroup at his parents’ house in New Jersey before beginning our honeymoon. The first stop on our European honeymoon was Barcelona! We arrived and went straight to our hotel, the W Barcelona. This hotel is magnificent, right on the water and the beach, very modern, and very tall. Thanks to Eric’s hotel points rewards our stay here was free! And since we mentioned it… (more)
