Today’s hike was 5 miles through a redwood forest in Henry Cowell State Park. It was really beautiful and ran along a river that seemed to be a popular spot to splash in. It also looked like there is some walk-in campsites up in the park that we’d like to try as we explore the world of backpacking. I think the coolest part about today was hiking uphill through sand for what seemed like forever. Apparently the whole way up to 800 feet used to be the ocean floor! We thought that was really very cool, and it provided a lot of unique things to look at as everything was living in and growing in sand even as we climbed the mountain. Hard to imagine the ocean so high up.
