Gaertner Family Visit

Group bikes!

It has been a long month for us. We had my parents out visiting for the first week, then about a week off to recoup, and then Eric’s family came out! We really only had a weekend with the whole family at first. During that time we showed off our new neighborhood, cooked a lot in my new kitchen, and Marc G worked tirelessly on turning that burl we purchased back on Memorial Day into… (more)

1 honeydew melon 2 Bartlett pears 2 Gravenstein apples 2 bunches of sweet baby broccoli 1 bunch of celery 1 pound of heirloom tomatoes This box was originally supposed to have a pound of summer squash, but instead I received a note saying they had run out of summer squash earlier than expected. Instead I got the second bunch of broccoli. I really don’t have many fun pictures to share with you this time around…. (more)

Bodie & Yosemite

bodie-yosemite-5144_5_6

My parents came out for their annual visit to us in California, and we all took a long weekend road trip into the Sierras! First stop of the trip was the ghost town of Bodie to walk around and see the remains of the buildings exactly as they were over a century ago. That was pretty cool. Second stop was to Mono Lake to check out the unique tufas. The next day we drove Tioga… (more)

Box… 1 honeydew melon 2 onions 2 white nectarines 4 red plums 1 head of lettuce 1 pound of summer squash 1 pound assorted heirloom tomatoes Half pound of green beans The lettuce was salad mostly. As you might have guessed the fruit was all eaten as snacks. Eric does not like melon so over the last week or so I ate the entire honeydew myself. It makes a really good post workout snack. On… (more)

Box from July 4

As I mentioned in the last post, this box came the morning we flew out to Texas for a wedding so it had to sit in the fridge untouched for several days before I got to it. You may also notice that the delivery date this time was a Thursday instead of a Friday! This was the first box delivered to our new address in a new zip code so that was kind of exciting…. (more)

Box contained… Head of lettuce Bunch of carrots 2 green peppers 2 avocados 3 nectarines 9 apricots 3 summer squash Potatoes I am super late showing you this box because we’ve just been so darn busy! This box came the morning that we flew to Connecticut for the wedding of our friends L&T. So I sort of just shoved it in the fridge until we returned home. The fruits got eaten, some of them over… (more)

Box! 1 head of lettuce 2 bunches of broccoli 1 green bell pepper 3 gypsy peppers 1 box strawberries 2 oranges 3 nectarines 8 plums 1 bunch of carrots This box made itself pretty easy by being snackable and no-cook items. I ate all the fruit, the carrots, and the peppers as raw snacks! Easy! The lettuce became a base for some delicious salads, and the broccoli was steamed as a side dish. Not a… (more)

This box was full of delicious fruit! 1 head of lettuce 1 bunch of radishes 1 bunch of carrots English peas 2 apples 3 apricots 1 box of blueberries 2┬ácantaloupe melons So unfortunately I forgot to take the tops off my carrots and then forgot about them altogether so they went bad. I was very sad because the carrots from this farm are just the best carrots ever grown. Oh well. They were a loss…. (more)

Redwood National Park

We sat and watched this elk eat grass for a long time

Continuing on our theme from last year, our Memorial Day trip this year revolved around trees. I could only hope that the trip out to the trees this year went more smoothly than the one last year, which you can read about here. Thankfully the drive up was uneventful and we arrived to set up camp around 10pm, which is infinitely better than 4am in the snow. This time around we were camping in Prairie… (more)

So here are the box contents this week: 3 Valencia oranges 2 Fuji apples 1 box strawberries 1 Eureka lemon 1 Hass avocado 1 bunch red leaf lettuce Half pound of green beans 1 pound assorted… (more)
